Boyle Heights, CA (June 29, 2024) A tragic accident occurred in Boyle Heights on June 29th that claimed a pedestrian’s life. The traumatic collision occurred when the pedestrian was struck by a semi-truck, officers reported. It happened on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway at approximately 12:48 a.m., at the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway transition road.
Darkness covered Boyle Heights as a pedestrian walked along the transition road near Golden State (5) Freeway. As the pedestrian walked, a semi-truck approached them. Sometime around 12:30 a.m., the semi-truck struck the pedestrian. The force of the impact threw the pedestrian into one of the freeway lanes, according to reports. The semi-truck immediately stopped and called for help.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian lying in one of the lanes of the freeway. They quickly blocked three lanes of the transition road and issued a SigAlert, asking motorists to take an alternate route. They found the pedestrian unresponsive, officers reported. They had been killed in the collision and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
Officers worked to gather as much evidence as they could find and took a statement from the driver of the semi-truck, who remained and cooperated during the investigation. They continue to investigate this collision to determine exactly what happened on that transition road to the freeway.
