Chinatown, Los Angeles, CA (February 14, 2024) Tragedy struck the Chinatown neighborhood in Los Angeles on the morning of Valentine’s Day, officers said. A pedestrian was struck by two different drivers, one of was arrested for DUI and the other fled the scene. It happened at the intersection of North Broadway and Ord Street. Sadly, the pedestrian did not survive.

Wednesday, February 14th, was supposed to be like any other day. It was the middle of the night in Chinatown as a pedestrian began to cross the street at an intersection, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Right around 2:30 a.m., as the pedestrian was crossing, a vehicle hit him as it headed north. The driver stopped to check on the man and to wait on police officers. As he waited with the pedestrian, a second vehicle came through, hitting the already injured pedestrian a second time. This time, the driver didn’t stop, but drove away from the scene.

Emergency crews arrived at that intersection and found the pedestrian on the ground with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics did everything they could, but unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The first driver who remained at the scene cooperated with authorities. He witnessed the second vehicle hitting the pedestrian and fleeing the scene, and told officers everything he had seen. However, police officers believed the driver was drunk at the time of the accident and placed him under arrest at the scene.

They are determined to find the second vehicle and the driver to bring justice to this awful accident in Chinatown.

Our hearts go out to the family of the pedestrian who was killed in this horrible accident. It serves as a bleak reminder to drivers to always use caution and be on the lookout for pedestrians, especially when it’s dark outside.
