      Los Angeles, CA (January 26, 2024) – A sense of grief sweeps Downtown Los Angeles today as the community comes to terms with the tragic death of a 30-year-old unhoused pedestrian on the Harbor Freeway (110). California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to a distressing call at 2:01 a.m., reporting a pedestrian fatality on the southbound lanes near the South Vernon Avenue exit. 

      While the victim’s age and gender were not immediately known, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s office later identified the victim as 30-year old Kevyn Moises Diaz. . The pedestrian was found in the slow lane, and despite swift emergency response efforts, they ultimately succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

      In response to the incident, the CHP took immediate action by closing all lanes of the southbound freeway to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash. As the authorities work diligently to piece together the events leading to this tragic accident, the Downtown Los Angeles community is left grappling with sorrow and unanswered questions.
