San Diego, CA (April 23, 2024) – Jeremy Ponton, 34, of Alabama, tragically lost his life in a fiery motorcycle crash in eastern San Diego County last week.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024, on Winter Gardens Boulevard in Lakeside. Ponton was riding a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R at a high speed southbound on Winter Gardens Boulevard when a 2013 Ford F-150 backed out of a driveway north of Lemon Crest Drive directly into his path, according to reports from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The collision ignited a fire, engulfing both the motorcycle and the pickup truck, as stated by CHP public-affairs Officer Jared Grieshaber.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, and paramedics transported Ponton to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, where he was tragically pronounced dead.

The driver of the Ford and a passenger in the vehicle escaped the collision unharmed, Grieshaber confirmed.
