Harbor Gateway, CA (November 25, 2023) A 24-year-old mother was tragically killed by a drunk driver on Thanksgiving Day, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Detective Ryan Moreno of the Los Angeles Police Department South Traffic Division, stated in a news release that this Thanksgiving was the worst he had seen in regards to drunk drivers.

The fatal accident, costing one young mother her life, occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Moreno said. The mother was in a vehicle with two other women, near the intersection of 18th Street and Figueroa. As they drove down the street, a drunk driver was also traveling towards them, at more than 100 miles per hour. The drunk driver crashed into the other vehicle, killing the 24-year-old mother.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find the young woman already deceased. She was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Detective Moreno said, “A young mother of a 5-year-old son, a single mother . . . that was a tough thing yesterday, was knowing that this little boy, his mom was not going to come home.”
The accident is still under investigation, and no other details have been released at this time.
