Las Vegas, NV (November 22, 2024) A tragic accident occurred on November 8 that left multiple people with critical injuries and multiple people deceased, including two juveniles.

The deceased victims’ names have been withheld pending family notification. Two passengers in the car that caused the accident were hurt: Summer Wickard, 31, sustained moderate injuries, and Christine Torres, 46, sustained critical injuries.

The crash happened at about 5:13 p.m. on East Flamingo Road and South Pecos-McLeod. A 2014 Lexus GS350 was speeding westbound on Flamingo Road. The driver entered the intersection against a solid red traffic signal, slamming the right side of a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander. The impact sent the Mitsubishi into a 2018 Honda and a 2013 Cadillac that were stopped at the light.

The two juveniles who were fatally injured were in the Mitsubishi. Two more juveniles in that vehicle sustained minor injuries, as did the driver. The driver of the Lexus that caused the crash fled the scene, leaving her two injured passengers behind, but she was arrested later on.

Liability In a Las Vegas Car Accident

Nevada has strict hit-and-run laws. NRS 484E.010 is a law that specifically addresses one’s duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death or personal injury. It reads:

–The driver of any vehicle involved in a crash on a highway or on premises to which the public has access resulting in bodily injury to or the death of a person shall immediately stop his or her vehicle at the scene of the crash or as close thereto as possible, and shall forthwith return to and in every event shall remain at the scene of the crash until the driver has fulfilled the requirements of NRS 484E.030.

–Every such stop must be made without obstructing traffic more than is necessary.

–A person failing to comply with the provisions of subsection 1 is guilty of a category B felony and shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for a minimum term of not less than 2 years and a maximum term of not more than 20 years and by a fine of not less than $2,000 nor more than $5,000. A person failing to comply with the provisions of subsection 1 commits a separate offense under this section for the bodily injury to or the death of each person that results from a crash with regard to which the person failed to comply with the provisions of subsection 1.
