Los Banos, CA (June 24, 2024) A terrifying collision occurred in Los Banos today. A head-on collision sent a vehicle into the canal, where it sank into 4 to 5 feet of water, reports indicated. Officials arrived and found one person with major injuries. The accident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. on June 24th, at Palazzo Road and Turner Island Road.

A white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was traveling through the intersection of Palazzo Road and Turner Island Road when it collided with another vehicle. The impact sent one of the vehicles crashing into the canal, officers reported. It slowly sank into four to five feet of water as onlookers watched with fear and concern. Someone called 911 and reported the accident.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene along with paramedics and quickly hurried into the canal to help those inside the vehicle. They found one person for with serious injuries, according to reports. The person was extricated from the vehicle in the canal and carried to an ambulance. Paramedics turned on the sirens and lights and rushed the victim to a local hospital to receive treatment for major injuries.

Officers requested a tow truck to the scene to pull the vehicle out of the canal. The Toyota Tacoma had sustained major front-end damage and also had to be towed from the scene, officers said. Detectives investigated the accident and took statements from those who witnessed the terrifying collision. They are working to determine not only what caused this collision, but also discover who was at fault.
