Lodi, CA (November 27, 2023) – Gene Benton Jr was fatally injured on Thursday, November 23rd, in a tragic bike crash on Highway 12 outside of Lodi, California. According to news source KCRA, the accident took place just after 5:00 p.m. in the area west of Interstate 5.
The California Highway Patrol reports that Benton was riding his bicycle west on the south shoulder of Highway 12 when he crossed over the road into the westbound lane, for unknown reasons. In the westbound lane was an oncoming Volkswagen Beetle driven by a 19 year old. The Volkswagen driver attempted to break but struck the Benton on his bike.

Benton was severely injured in the crash and sadly was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries occurred as a result of the collision.
