Surprisingly, the driver of the second vehicle fled the scene on foot following the fatal crash, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. San Diego, CA (January 8, 2024) A 91-year-old man was struck by a car while walking in the Normal Heights community of San Diego on Saturday, January 6th. The accident took place at the intersection of Adams Avenue and Felton Street in the North Park area of San Diego around 6:17 p.m., authorities said. Los Angeles, CA (January 8, 2024) 26-year-old Luis Espinoza lost his life when he was struck by a police car on Century Boulevard in Los Angeles. The accident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on December 8th, 2023, according to authorities. Espinoza, a Long Beach resident, was running on Century Boulevard, heading south, when he was struck. Police officers reported that he was about 75 feet from a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident. Los Angeles, CA (January 7, 2024) April Ritz, 26, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Thursday morning, January 4th, 2024. The fatal accident occurred on Sepulveda Boulevard, near the Los Angeles International Airport, authorities reported. According to initial reports, it all happened just after midnight in the area of West Century Boulevard. Los Angeles, CA (January 7, 2024) 72-year-old Alberto Castaneda, a sewing machine operator, was struck and killed in a South Los Angeles crosswalk on January 3rd. The accident happened at the intersection of Main Street and West Adams Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Castaneda was in a designated crosswalk when, suddenly, a speeding vehicle appeared out of nowhere. Without slowing down, the car slammed into Castaneda in the crosswalk and sped away. Chula Vista, CA (January 6, 2024) Uber driver, Carmina Johnson, 54, was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in Chula Vista on New Year’s Day. The Chula Vista Police Department reported that the accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Broadway, near F Street. According to authorities, Johnson was driving a Toyota Prius north on Broadway at the time of the collision. In an interview with 10News, Johnson said she was on her way to pick up a rider when she saw a “huge truck” heading towards her. Las Vegas, Nevada (January 5, 2024) 31-year-old Tierney Norris, a Las Vegas resident, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday, January 4th. Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Ken Nogle said the deadly accident took place at the intersection of Arville Street and Russell Road just after 9:30 p.m. Norris was the passenger in a 2023 Ram 2500 pickup truck that was heading west on Russell Road in central Las Vegas. Pomona, CA (January 4, 2024) A tragic hit-and-run crash on New Year’s Day took the life of 23-year-old Khailyn Garcia in Pomona. According to the Pomona Police Department, the accident occurred just before 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Center Street and Garey Avenue. Garcia’s boyfriend, Miguel Vega, said the two attended a New Year’s Eve celebration together in Pomona. On the way home from the celebration, the two stopped on the side of the road on their way home. Turlock, CA (January 4, 2023) A collision on New Year’s Day claimed the lives of 23-year-old Leilani Romayor-Bettencourt and 28-year-old Danny Reyes. The California Highway Patrol stated that the two Turlock residents were passengers in a vehicle, driven by 24-year-old Issac Urbeana, at the time of the collision. A third passenger, 21-year-old Oakdale resident, Amber Sauls, sustained severe injuries in this crash. Oakland, CA (January 4, 2023) Word of a pedestrian who was struck and killed while innocently walking on the sidewalk, spread quickly through Oakland on New Year’s Day. Antoinette Matthews, a 23-year-old Stockton resident, was identified as the victim by authorities. The Oakland Police Department reported that Matthews was walking on the sidewalk on the 4200 block of International Boulevard at approximately 12:45 a.m. A vehicle began doing doughnuts in the street near Matthews and the car went over the curb and up onto the sidewalk, where it struck Matthews, officers said.
