Lompoc, CA (November 15, 2024) The family of Daniel Arias Cortez, 23, continues to mourn his loss in Lompoc, following a hit-and-run collision. Cortez passed away at a hospital following the accident on February 10th, 2024. He was struck in Beattie Park on E. Olive Street at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Cortez was walking on the evening of February 10th, when he was struck by a vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Gezel Viveros, the mother of Cortez’s two children. After hitting Cortez, she immediately fled the scene, according to reports. She was later found and arrested.
Daniel Cortez was found with life-threatening injuries and taken to Lompoc Valley Medical Center by a private vehicle. He was then transferred to Marian Regional Medical Center to receive treatment. The medical staff did everything they could, but his injuries were too severe. Devastatingly, 23-year-old Daniel Cortez was pronounced dead at the hospital.
