Moreno Valley, CA (June 5, 2024) A tragic accident occurred in Moreno Valley on Thursday, June 6th, claiming a pedestrian life. 22-year-old Moreno Valley resident, Ernestine Jones, did not survive the accident. It was just after 3:00 a.m. on the 60 Freeway when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle, reports indicated. The fatal accident occurred near Perris Boulevard in the westbound lanes of the freeway.
It was the middle of the night in Moreno Valley as a pedestrian walked along the 60 Freeway in the darkness. As the pedestrian walked, a vehicle was heading west on the freeway, near Perris Boulevard, and struck the pedestrian. The force from the collision threw the pedestrian several feet before they landed hard on the ground. The pedestrian remained there, motionless, until authorities arrived at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol arrived and found the pedestrian lying on the ground, unresponsive. There was nothing that anyone could do and sadly, officials pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene and called for a coroner. Officers had to close a section of the freeway for several hours while they investigated the accident and a SigAlert was issued for all of the westbound lanes.
Officers with the CHP collected evidence and are working diligently to determine what caused the vehicle to hit the pedestrian on the 60 Freeway. The cause of this fatal accident is still unknown but officers hope to put together the pieces and learn what transpired on that dark highway.
