San Jose, CA (May 25, 2024) Grief flooded the community of San Jose on Friday afternoon as news spread of a traumatic accident that left one person dead. The casualty happened when a tractor-trailer crashed with another vehicle on Highway 101 right around 11:15 a.m. The California Highway Patrol stated that the accident also caused a fuel spill, which had to be cleaned up by hazardous material workers.
It was late morning on Friday, May 24th, as vehicles drove along Highway 101 in San Jose. A sedan was one of these vehicles. The driver was traveling along just as they had done many times before. Suddenly, a tractor-trailer collided with the sedan in the southbound lanes of the highway. It was just north of Blossom Hill Road, officers reported. The collision caused about 15 gallons of fuel to spill onto the roadway.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the sedan completely smashed and the tractor-trailer with moderate damage. They hurried to the sedan and found the driver had been killed in the collision. Sadly, they pronounced him dead at the scene and called for a coroner. Officers also noticed fuel all over the roadway that had spilled as a result of the collision. They called for hazard materials workers to come and clean up the spill.
Detectives investigated the accident and gathered as much information and evidence as they could. They are still investigating this accident to determine what actually happened and who was at fault. The sedan had to be hauled from the scene by a tow truck, according to officers and crews worked to clean up the glass and debris that was left behind.
