Las Vegas, NV (April 29, 2024) A collision in the south valley left a 33-year-old motorcyclist in critical condition on Sunday morning, April 28th. The accident took place at approximately 10:48 a.m. on South Eastern Avenue at the East Wigwam Avenue intersection. The driver of the other vehicle was arrested at the scene for suspected DUI, officers said.
It was late Sunday morning in South valley as a motorcyclist rode a 2000 Yamaha V-Star XVS650 south on South Eastern Avenue. Witnesses said a 2020 Toyota Sienna was leaving a private driveway and didn’t yield for the motorcyclist. The motorcycle crashed into the left front side of the Toyota, according to police officers. The 33-year-old motorcyclist was thrown from his ride and landed, hard, on the ground.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department hurried to the scene and found the Toyota with moderate damage following the accident. The Yamaha motorcycle, however, was completely smashed and destroyed. Pieces of debris littered the ground at the scene. Officers found the motorcyclist on the ground with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics quickly transported the rider to Sunrise Hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers. However, officers determined that he had been driving while under the influence and arrested him at the scene. He faces DUI charges following this horrible south valley accident.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Collision Investigation Section is leading the investigation into this collision. The motorcycle had to be hauled from the scene on a trailer and crews cleaned debris off the roadway following the initial investigation. The Toyota was hauled away by a tow truck, according to reports.
