Antioch, CA (March 15, 2024) Passengers on a Tri Delta Transit bus were going about their daily routines on Thursday afternoon, when the bus was hit by an SUV. Six of the passengers on the bus were injured in the collision, as well as the driver of the SUV. The collision took place on Laurel Road right at 12:30 p.m., according to officers.

The crash occurred when the SUV ran a red light, officers said, and slammed into the back of a Tri Delta Transit bus, near the Highway 4 off-ramp. The driver of the SUV told officers with the Antioch Police Department that they “accidentally” drove through the red light.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District arrived at the scene with the Antioch Police Department and found the SUV with major front end damage and the bus with rear-end damage. The roadway was littered with debris and paramedics hurried to give aid to anyone who was injured. The driver of the SUV sustained serious injuries in the collision and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Six passengers on the bus were also injured and taken to a hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, officers said.

Police officers to not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in this collision. They also do not believe that the driver of the SUV was speeding at the time of the collision, which would have made the accident far worse.
