Leimert Park, Los Angeles, CA (March 1, 2024) The neighborhood of Leimert Park was rattled on Thursday night following the death of Gail Regina McNeil, 65, by a hit-and-run driver. The collision occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m., at the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Homeland Drive. According to reports, the driver hit the pedestrian and then drove away without stopping.
It was dark in Leimert Park as McNeil headed down the street on foot. As she walked, a tan-colored sedan approached her and suddenly struck her. The driver of the vehicle did not stop, but continued driving until their headlights disappeared into the darkness of night. McNeil was left lying alone in the roadway with life-threatening injuries, according to officers.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the scene and found McNeil, motionless, on the ground. Paramedics rushed to give aid, but sadly, the Los Angeles resident was killed during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A few witnesses at the scene spoke with police officers. They said they saw the vehicle hit the woman and then continue driving south on Crenshaw Boulevard without even slowing down.
The South Traffic Division of the Los Angeles Police Department is leading the investigation into this fatal accident in Leimert Park. They not only hope to determine what happened to cause this tragic accident, but they are also determined to find the person responsible. The LAPD told City News Service, “The (driver) failed to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene as required by law.” The City of Los Angeles is offering a reward up to $50,000 for any information that assists in finding the suspect.
