Ramona, CA (February 9, 2024) A community was left heart-broken after a two-vehicle crash claimed the lives of a 13-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man on Thursday, February 8th. The fatal accident took place on San Vicente Road at approximately 4:45 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said. Officers have shared that the roads were wet and slick at the time of the collision due to rainfall.
The 21-year-old man was driving a 2007 Toyota Scion TC with the boy in the front passenger seat. They were headed west on San Vicente Road, just east of Wildcat Canyon. Simultaneously, a 61-year-old woman was heading east in a 2018 Dodge Durango. Officer Jared Grieshaber with the California Highway Patrol said the Toyota began to drift and crossed the double yellow lines in the center of the road. The front of the Dodge slammed into the passenger side of the Toyota.

Emergency personnel hurried to the scene and found the two damaged vehicles and began checking to see if anyone was injured. Unfortunately, they found the man and the teenage boy unresponsive in the Toyota. They were both, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene. The woman who was driving the Dodge was loaded into an ambulance and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officer Grieshaber said, “At the time of the crash the roadway was wet from rain.” Authorities are still investigating this deadly collision, but believe rain and a wet roadway could have played a part. They do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision and are investigating to determine what exactly happened.
