Bakersfield, CA (January 9, 2024) Two people were killed in a 30-vehicle pile-up collision on Interstate 5 in Bakersfield. 45-year-old Pedro Garcia Canseco, from Gilroy, and 62-year-old Patricia Anne Wilson, an Arizona resident, were both pronounced dead at the scene in this horrible accident that left 2 others with critical injuries and 7 others with mild to moderate injuries, authorities said.

This massive collision occurred on January 6th at approximately 7:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5. The California Highway Patrol said that there were 12 trucks and 18 passenger vehicles involved in this 30-car accident.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Canseco and Wilson were both driving vehicles that collided with a big rig on the interstate. Emergency crews arrived to find a massive trail of damaged vehicles on Interstate 5. Paramedics hurried to find anyone who was in need of medical attention. Unfortunately, they found Wilson and Canseco both deceased in their vehicles. The two victims with critical injuries were rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment, according to police officers.

Investigators believed that this 30-vehicle collision happened because of heavy fog. They said drivers slowed down because their visibility was so low, yet people driving behind them continued to drive the speed limit. This caused traffic that was coming up from behind on the freeway to crash into vehicles in front of them that were moving at a slower pace. Thus began a chain reaction that caused a 30-vehicle pileup.

Officers are still working to determine who was actually at fault in this horrible collision that cost Pedro Canseco and Patricia Wilson their lives.
